LCVP : Chocolate Factory Visit

Our LCVP class organised a wonderful trip to the Caffery’s Chocolate factory as part of visit out. We got the bus to the factory in Walkinstown from school, during which we sang songs of praise about our wonderful classmates.

When we got to the factory, we went into the ‘Chocolate Warehouse’ where we were greeted by the workers. They gave us an overview of what we would be doing. We were brought in and given a talk on the Caffery’s company and how it started. The talk included information on their procedures and how external factors affect the chocolate-making business. We were then shown an informative video on how chocolate is made; it showed us the journey from the cocoa pods, which can contain from 30-70 beans, all the way through processing right up to its finished bar form.

After this we were shown how chocolate and caramel sweets are made, with a wonderful and insightful demonstration from a man named Edgar. We were shown first-hand some of the steps taken in making the chocolates we all know and love. We then went on to decorate our own chocolates and were allowed to bring our goods home.

We finished off the tour with a table quiz. We then went into the gift shop. I stocked up on snowballs and tea-cakes, even though I don’t like snowballs, and off we went. We got on the bus back to school and enjoyed a wonderful sing song about our class mates.

Unfortunately we did not have the pleasure in meeting the Oompa Lumpas :(

And a huge thanks to the Caffrey's Chocolate Warehouse for having us!
