CommScope Visit : 3rd Year Business

On the 12th December, Ms. Syron and Mr. O’ Brien’s business classes visited CommScope factory in Corke Abbey, Bray. CommScope is a premier network infrastructure provider. It produces many solutions that enable top-performing networks to exist today. 

When we went in, we were greeted by Adrian Hayes, who is Senior Sales Operations Manager and our guide for the day. Everyone got ID-cards for security reasons. They looked rather professional!

                                   

Afterwards we were led into a room where Adrian and his colleagues, Fiona and Kevin, gave us a presentation on what CommScope is and what it does. I found it Fiona’s talk on personal branding very interesting because it gave me an opportunity to think about my skills, my results and extra curricula activities I can apply to a business.


                                    


After that, Adrian led us into one of the rooms where their international customers see their product and buy solutions. The room even had automatic, slide-out walls which revealed various products. It was really cool.


                                     

The next stage everyone was led down to the factory floor. We were instructed on safety features such as wearing safety goggles, bags stored out of the way and being aware of machinery.

While on the factory floor, some of the factory workers explained the procedure of making copper wire, which is used to wire everything. It looked like a long and complicated procedure, but the amount of wire produced was immense.

                                         

After the tour, we were led back into the first room, where a bag of treats, but also information on CommScope’s work and examples of buildings powered by its solutions awaited us. One such building is the Dallas Cowboys’ New Stadium in Arlington, Texas; where SYSTMAX ® and Andrew Solutions, deliver “World-Class Enterprise and Wireless Solutions”.


After a quick presentation summarising our trip, it was time to go. Everyone gave a round of applause to Adrian and his colleagues and thanked them for everything. We took a photo outside and then made our way back to school. Overall, it was a very interesting and informative trip.
